Nunavik Housing Bureau

Created in 1999, the Nunavik Housing Bureau’s mission is to provide comfortable, safe and affordable housing adapted to the needs and culture of the Inuit. Through its programs and services, and with the help of its partners, NHB is contributing to the development of dynamic, sustainable, and safe communities.
Today, it serves as a representative designated by the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ) to oversee and maintain a social housing stock of 4,004 units distributed across all fourteen communities of Nunavik.
NHB provides homes for 98% of the Inuit people of the region. This represents approximately 14,000 individuals on a 443,000 km2 territory.
Governance

The Nunavik Housing Bureau is governed by a board of directors made up of 7 appointed and elected community representatives each serving a 3-year term:
- 2 members appointed by the Gouvernement du Québec – Ministre responsable de l’Habitation
- 3 members appointed by the Kativik Regional Government (KRG)
- 2 members elected among NHB tenants

Management Team

To facilitate the day-to-day management of the NHB’s activities, the BOD delegates certain powers to the Director General. The latter relies on the advice and support of its management team in managing operations and to monitor the major challenges of the organization.
